BAHRAICH ARSENIC MITIGATION PROJECT (BAMP)

BAMP is being implemented by University of Miyazaki (UOM), Japan in collaboration with Eco Friends. The project is being supported by JICA Kyushu, Japan. BAMP office started in September 2008.

About Bahraich:

District Bahraich has an international border with Nepal on the northern part. District Barabanki and Sitapur are in South, Khiri in West and Gonda & Sravasti in East. It is situated between the 28.24 & 27.4 latitude & 81.65 to 81.3 eastern longitude. Bahraich has a Geographical area of 4696.8 sq km. There are 12 development blocks in Bahraich district. According to census of 2001, the total population of Bahraich is 2381072.

Results of Screening Testing of Arsenic in Bahraich by UP Jal Nigam:

Testing for Arsenic was done in 10 out of 14 Blocks of District. The screening programme followed the protocol of testing 1 water source from habitations with 1-10 water sources and 2 sources from habitations with more than 10 sources. The results of Arsenic Testing are given in the following Table:

BAMP has selected 3 habitations (Chetra Proper, Passinpatti & Chainpurwa) of Chetra and 4 habitations (Newada Proper, Babhunichak, Korinpurwa, Dhannipurwa) of Newada village. Both the villages are in Tejwapur Block.

Our mission:

Our mission is to free the people of our project area from the clutches of arsenic contamination of groundwater through an integrated approach.
