Water – the elixir of life. They say ………….

What will they say about the chromium contaminated water that Kanpurites drink? We belived – Ganges as the sacred mother that purified the man of his sins. What will they say when even the dying man will feel sick, feel vomiting on just seeing the colour of the Gangajal being poured in his parched throat?

Distinguished chairperson, members of jury and my dear friends. A very good morning to all of you. Today, I stand before you to speak for the motion of the topic “Our country looks dirty”.

Not just the streets of your neighborhood, the garbage dumps, the water, the air, even the earth of India has become so dirty that if our great grandfathers visit India today they may faint & reach heavens back after inhaling the foul smell all around.

Are efforts being made to clean the country? HUMBUG! Just political gimmick. Ultimately, what we see everywhere are the bye-products of our ugly politics – Sewage polluted beach, black granules of soot , traffic congestion , noise, smoke , ugliness and so on.

India is getting choc– a block with vehicular traffic emanating poisonous fumes from it's below the norm fuels. Tonnes & tonnes of garbage are being unloaded into rivers. Cacophony of noise is being created by sound machines & all these are hammering on the fragile security cover of the country's atmosphere. Oversized population takes its toll on the civic amenities. Filth, dirt and stink are for all to forbear.

While polluted air almost never appears on a death certificate, medical research strongly implicates it as a contributing cause of many deaths. Not only just this, the other day a group of school kids were being questioned about the cleanliness of their houses and all of them very proudly said, our house, very neat, very clean, very hygienic, very this, very that and bla-bla- bla-bla.

What they do not confess or accept is that the street is dirty because of the garbage dumped out by them. This even a dog does. He also cleans the spot where it sits on. Then what better we are?

Our cities are becoming dirtier every year. Delhi , the so called capital of India , has earned notoriety for being the fourth most polluted city in the world. The emissions of smoke from the chimneys of the factories and the guzzlers of the road have converted our cities into big gas chambers.

Living in the lap of nature is bliss. The treasures of nature are never empty. Many poets have tried to warn us-But-my dear friends, it appears we're firm about keeping up our traditions and customs of medieval era when the open fields were public toilets. Though every house now boasts of wet toilets-you may say-you've an hygienic house. Come out of this blind belief. You're living in dirt, a dirty looking country and sooner or later you'll accept this when stains spoil your sparkling white dress.

Thank you
